Goodhart Building
The Goodhart Building has been fully refurbished and extended to provide accommodation for 57 students with en-suite study rooms, communal kitchens and dining areas, including three wheelchair accessible student rooms and an accessible kitchen. Two new collaborative learning spaces have been created on the ground floor.Careful interventions and new-built elements have been designed with the aim to preserve the character of the existing building and to respect the surrounding heritage assets.
Work includes new slender double glazed aluminium windows to reflect the original sightlines, a new highly insulated rooftop extension, recladding of the whole of the exterior with external insulation, new top floor and rear 3 storey extensions built with SIPS (structurally insulated panels) and 110m² of PV panels. All these measures are predicted to reduce energy consumption by at least 35%. The refurbishment has completely transformed the quality and energy performance of the existing building, providing University College with a light, bright, comfortable student residence with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
